Magnolia Looks for Revenge Against Phoenix
Is it payback time for the Magnolia Hotshots, or will Phoenix Super LPG prove that its first-round victory was no fluke?
That question takes center stage Wednesday night as Magnolia and Phoenix collide at 7:30 p.m. at the Ynares Center in Antipolo in another important Group B matchup of the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup.
The game carries significant playoff implications for both teams. Phoenix enters the contest with a 4-2 record, tied with Rain or Shine at the top of the group, while Magnolia has climbed back into contention after a difficult start and now sits at 3-3.
For Magnolia, the matchup is more than just another game in the standings. It is also an opportunity to settle the score after Phoenix handed the Hotshots an 86-98 defeat in their conference opener.
But Phoenix has every reason to believe it can do it again.

That performance remains one of the biggest reasons Magnolia will have to be prepared for another physical and high-scoring battle.
Magnolia Turns Its Season Around
Magnolia's path to this rematch has been much different.
The Hotshots stumbled out of the gate, losing their opening game to Phoenix and dropping two of their next three contests.
At 3-3, however, Magnolia has managed to stabilize its campaign at a critical point in the conference.

More importantly, Magnolia enters the Phoenix game with momentum.
The Hotshots have won their last two games in convincing fashion, defeating Barangay Ginebra, 88-73, before following that up with an impressive 105-88 victory over Meralco.
Those back-to-back wins have changed the atmosphere around the team and placed Magnolia firmly back in the playoff conversation.
For veteran coach LA Tenorio, the recent victories are evidence that his players have embraced the urgency of the Governors’ Cup.
“Playoff Mentality” Has Become Magnolia’s Mindset
Tenorio emphasized that Magnolia's recent games have already felt like playoff contests.
The veteran coach challenged his players to understand the importance of every remaining game, particularly with the race for the Top Four becoming increasingly competitive.
“The past three games, we've been really in a playoff mentality already,” Tenorio said following the victory over Meralco.
He also acknowledged how little room Magnolia had for error.
According to Tenorio, two additional losses could have placed the Hotshots in serious danger of missing the next stage of the tournament.
That urgency appears to have produced a positive response.
Tenorio said he was particularly pleased with how his players responded not only during games but also during practices. The team, he said, has become more committed to the system and has shown greater belief in what the coaching staff is trying to establish.
That level of commitment will be tested again against Phoenix.
Can Magnolia Contain BJ Johnson?
One of the biggest challenges for Magnolia will be finding a way to limit BJ Johnson.
Johnson immediately announced himself in the PBA during the teams' first encounter, scoring 34 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
His explosive offensive performance helped Phoenix recover from a slow start and eventually take control of the game.
The Fuel Masters entered the fourth quarter holding a relatively narrow 79-71 advantage. But Johnson and Jason Perkins helped Phoenix open the final period with a decisive 7-1 run.
That burst created the separation Phoenix needed.
Magnolia will be expected to make adjustments this time around.
The Hotshots have now had more time to study Phoenix, understand Johnson's tendencies and prepare for the combination of Johnson and Perkins.
Their veteran core could also play a major role.
