TNT Tropang Giga secured their sixth consecutive win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, defeating Barangay Ginebra 91-86 at the PhilSports Arena. This victory propelled TNT to the top of the league standings while pushing Ginebra to seventh place.

Key Highlights

  • Standout Performances:
    • Calvin Oftana led the charge with 32 points, including six three-pointers, and sealed the game with critical free throws in the final seconds.
    • Rondae Hollis-Jefferson contributed 25 points, with a flawless 13-of-13 performance from the free-throw line.
    • Supporting Players: Poy Erram added 10 points, and Jayson Castro chipped in with nine.
  • Defensive Prowess:
TNT displayed exceptional defensive capabilities, with coach Chot Reyes praising their ability to withstand Ginebra’s offensive arsenal and focus on strategic trade-offs.
  • Crucial Context:
This marks TNT’s sixth straight win after starting the conference 0-2, putting them ahead of NorthPort Batang Pier, Hong Kong Eastern dribblers, and Converge FiberXers (all at 7-3).

Game Dynamics

  • TNT maintained a double-digit lead but faced a fierce Ginebra comeback attempt. Despite this, their balanced offense and defense prevailed.
  • Ginebra, hindered by a short rotation of eight players under coach Tim Cone, struggled to capitalize on opportunities.

TNT’s victory solidifies their pole position in the standings amidst a competitive race for the Top Two and the quarterfinal twice-to-beat advantage. The win also serves as a statement following their Governors Cup title clash against Ginebra last November.
