A Determined Comeback
TNT Tropang Giga bounced back from their Game 3 loss with a crucial 93-85 win over Rain or Shine in Game 4 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals. The victory at Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday night put them one step closer to securing a spot in the finals.
Oftana and Pogoy Lead the Charge
Calvin Oftana delivered an impressive 26-point performance, while RR Pogoy added 22 points, easing the pressure on star import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. Despite a solid all-around game from Hollis-Jefferson—contributing 17 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks—the team needed extra effort to secure the win.
Coach Reyes’ Simple but Effective Strategy
Head coach Chot Reyes emphasized the need for improvement, urging his players to be “better screeners, better passers, and better defenders.” His strategy paid off as TNT set the pace early, building a crucial 91-81 lead that helped seal the game.
Winning Despite Key Absence
The Tropang Giga continued their playoff run without veteran guard Jayson Castro, who remains sidelined due to a knee injury. Oftana acknowledged Castro’s absence, dedicating the team’s effort to him and highlighting the importance of collective teamwork to fill the void.
Overcoming a Strong Challenge from Rain or Shine
Despite a dominant 44-point, 13-rebound performance from Rain or Shine’s Deon Thompson, TNT managed to hold off their opponents to secure their third win in the best-of-seven series.
Looking Ahead
With a 3-1 series lead, TNT now has a chance to close out the series and book their finals ticket in Game 5 on Friday.
