Magnolia Hotshots Triumph in Reunion Game Against Blackwater Bossing

The Magnolia Hotshots, led by returning import Ricardo Ratliffe, began their PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign with a decisive 118-100 victory over the Blackwater Bossing on Thursday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Key Performances

  • Ricardo Ratliffe: The 35-year-old import proved his dominance, contributing 30 points, 18 rebounds, and five assists in his first game back.
  • Magnolia Locals: Jerrick Ahanmisi led the locals with 21 points, supported by Mark Barroca (15 points), Zavier Lucero (13 points), Paul Lee (9 points) and Jerom Lastimosa, who added nine points.
  • Blackwater’s Effort: Despite the loss, Blackwater import George King shone with 42 points, while Sedrick Barefield added 24.

Game Highlights

  • Strong Start for Magnolia: The Hotshots established a commanding lead of 77-56 by the third quarter.
  • Blackwater’s Resilience: King powered a rally to cut the deficit to 11, and further reduced it to nine points early in the fourth.
  • Magnolia’s Response: A timely 9-0 run after a timeout sealed the game for the Hotshots.

Setback and Recovery

The game saw Calvin Abueva rushed to the hospital following a neck injury from an accidental elbow by Sedrick Barefield. Despite this setback, Magnolia maintained focus and delivered a strong finish.

Looking Ahead

With this win, the Hotshots aim to carry momentum into their upcoming match against the Converge FiberXers on Sunday. Magnolia seeks redemption after narrowly missing the playoffs in the Governors’ Cup elims, where they placed behind Converge.

Magnolia’s balanced attack and Ratliffe’s commanding presence set a promising tone for their PBA Commissioner’s Cup run.
