With six straight victories under their belt, the Magnolia Hotshots are just a win away from clinching a spot in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup playoffs. However, Head Coach Chito Victolero is making sure his team stays grounded and focused. According to him, despite their impressive 6-0 record, the journey is far from over.

“It’s a good start but we can’t be complacent. The players know this is only the beginning of the real grind,” said Victolero.

As they prepare for their next big game, the Hotshots are staying committed to continuous improvement—an approach that has fueled their dominant start to the conference.

A Tough Test Against Rain or Shine

The upcoming face-off with Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, scheduled for Sunday at 7:30 PM at the Ynares Center in Montalban, presents a significant test for Magnolia.

Coach Victolero acknowledges the physicality and unpredictability that Rain or Shine brings to the court.

“Every time we face Rain or Shine, it’s always physical. Our players are veterans—they know what kind of game to expect.”

Despite being viewed as a mid-tier team, Rain or Shine has proven they can compete with any opponent. Holding a 3-2 record, the Elasto Painters have notched wins over NorthPort, Meralco, and Blackwater, while falling to NLEX and Converge.

Yeng Guiao: Ready for the Big Test

Veteran Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao is using the break between games to recharge his roster, particularly his frontcourt players. Following their 120-106 win over Blackwater, the Elasto Painters are looking to carry that momentum into their clash with Magnolia.

“That breather was a big help for our big men to recover and prepare for the league-leading Magnolia,” said Guiao.

Both teams are fired up—Magnolia looking to extend their perfect run, and Rain or Shine eager to climb the standings and make a statement.

The Mental Game: Staying Hungry

For Magnolia, the key is to remain hungry and vigilant.

“All the teams want to beat us to boost their confidence,” said Victolero. “That’s what we always have to keep in mind.”

With their eyes firmly set on a championship run, the Hotshots understand that every game is a potential pitfall if approached with overconfidence. Victolero continues to preach discipline, effort, and humility as the pillars of their success.

The Road Ahead

While a playoff spot is within reach, Magnolia knows the true challenge lies beyond. The team’s current mindset, fueled by strong leadership and consistent execution, will be vital as they push deeper into the tournament.

As fans await the highly anticipated showdown on Sunday, one thing is clear: both teams are bringing their best, and only one will leave with a critical win in their PBA journey.
