Successful Surgery and Recovery Process
Veteran TNT Tropang Giga guard Jayson Castro is on the path to full recovery after undergoing successful surgery for a patella tendon tear in his right knee. The injury occurred during Game 2 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.
The 38-year-old had his operation early Sunday morning and has since been discharged, recovering at home in Pampanga. TNT strength and conditioning coach Dexter Aseron confirmed that the procedure lasted only an hour, and Castro was allowed to go home shortly after.
Currently, Castro is using an immobilizer to aid walking. His rehabilitation and therapy process is expected to take nearly a year, making his return to the court a long-term goal.
Injury Details and Immediate Aftermath
The injury occurred in the final three minutes of TNT’s 93-91 victory over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in Game 2 of their best-of-seven series. Before exiting the game, Castro contributed 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
After being stretchered out of Philsports Arena, he was immediately taken to the hospital for an MRI scan, which confirmed the severity of the injury. The following day, TNT management officially announced that Castro would miss the remainder of the season.
Impact on TNT’s Playoff Run
Without their long-time leader, the Tropang Giga struggled in Game 3, suffering a 103-98 loss to Rain or Shine, allowing the Elasto Painters to cut the series deficit to 2-1.
As TNT continues their playoff campaign, Castro’s absence will be a significant challenge for the team as they aim for a championship without their veteran star.
