Ginebra Adapts to Brownlee’s Absence

Barangay Ginebra is gearing up for a tough battle against TNT in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals, despite the uncertainty surrounding their star import, Justin Brownlee. The three-time Best Import suffered a dislocated thumb in Game 3, leaving his status for Game 4 unclear. His absence poses a significant challenge, but the team remains determined to compete, even if they have to play with an all-Filipino lineup.

The Impact of Brownlee’s Injury

Both rookie guard RJ Abarrientos and veteran Troy Rosario acknowledged Brownlee’s critical role in the team. His ability to attract defenders and contribute on both ends of the floor has been a game-changer for Ginebra.

  • “Siyempre ibang factor kapag wala si JB sa loob,” Abarrientos explained, emphasizing Brownlee’s offensive and defensive presence.
  • Rosario also admitted, “Malaking bagay yung nawala si Justin, kasi siya yung no. 1 option namin.”

Despite his absence, Ginebra still put up a strong fight in Game 3, narrowly losing 87-85 to TNT. The defeat put them behind 2-1 in the best-of-seven series, but it also proved that they could compete even without their import.

Ginebra’s Fighting Spirit in Game 3

Even without Brownlee, Ginebra held their ground against the formidable TNT squad, which features one of the most talented imports in PBA history, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

The Kings even led 82-80 with two minutes remaining in the game, demonstrating their resilience. However, TNT responded with a crucial 7-0 run, sealed by Rey Nambatac’s clutch three-pointer. Rosario reflected on the game’s turning point, noting that failing to secure a critical rebound ultimately cost them the victory.

  • “Nakita namin kaya talaga e. Breaks of the game lang talaga, yung last shot ni Rey (Nambatac),” Rosario said.

Optimism Moving Forward

Despite the setback, Ginebra remains optimistic about their chances in the series. They recognize that execution in crucial moments will be key to their success.

  • “May chance kami. Hindi lang kami nakapag-execute nung kinakailangan,” Rosario emphasized.
  • Abarrientos added, “We’re still hoping the best for JB. Pero kailangan naming harapin ito. We need to move on.”

The Never-Say-Die Spirit Lives On

Ginebra has always been known for its “Never-Say-Die” attitude, and this situation is no exception. Whether Brownlee returns or not, the team is ready to rise to the occasion and fight for the championship.

With their backs against the wall, Ginebra will rely on their grit, teamwork, and championship experience to overcome the adversity they face in the coming games.
