Ginebra’s Dominant Run and Strategic Energy Management

The Barangay Ginebra Kings have showcased a powerful yet strategic approach in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series against NorthPort Batang Pier. With a strong starting lineup supported by an equally effective second unit, Ginebra has managed to maintain dominance while also conserving energy for the finals. Their impressive performance has placed them on the brink of a 4-0 series sweep, which would grant them valuable rest before the championship round.

Coach Cone Highlights Team Depth as Key Advantage

Head coach Tim Cone attributes their success to the depth of the roster, emphasizing the significant contributions of both the starters and bench players. Jamie Malonzo and RJ Abarrientos have been instrumental in extending leads and breaking the momentum of their opponents, allowing the team to maintain a relentless offensive approach. Cone sees this as a crucial advantage, enabling Ginebra to sustain high-level play throughout the series.

NorthPort Clings to Positivity Despite Deficit

Despite being down 0-3, NorthPort remains hopeful and focused on staying together as a team. Star player Arvin Tolentino acknowledges the difficulty of their situation but insists that team morale remains intact. He recalls their previous elimination round victory over Ginebra (119-116), which initially gave them confidence heading into the series. However, he also admits that Ginebra’s experience in high-stakes situations has given them a clear upper hand.

Ginebra’s Overwhelming Dominance

The Kings have outclassed NorthPort in all three games with decisive victories:

  • Game 1: 115-93
  • Game 2: 119-106
  • Game 3: 127-100

With such commanding performances, Ginebra is determined to close out the series in Game 4, ensuring they move forward as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Looking Ahead

Tip-off for Game 4 is set for 5:00 PM at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. While TNT and Rain or Shine continue their grueling semifinal battle on the other side of the bracket, Ginebra is focused on completing the sweep to secure much-needed rest and prepare for the ultimate challenge—the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
