TNT Aims to Close Out Rain or Shine in Game 5

The TNT Tropang Giga are just one win away from securing a spot in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals. Holding a commanding 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven semifinal series against Rain or Shine, the team is determined to finish the job in Game 5 on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Despite their lead, TNT head coach Chot Reyes expects nothing less than another intense battle. The Tropang Giga’s victories have come with an average margin of only 4.67 points, and their sole loss in Game 3 was by five points. Reyes remains grateful for the opportunity and acknowledges the challenges that come with competing at this level, especially as they move forward without veteran guard Jayson Castro.

Rain or Shine Not Ready to Surrender

On the other side, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters refuse to throw in the towel. Head coach Yeng Guiao is focused on making the necessary adjustments to keep their championship hopes alive.

“It’s not over yet. We still have Friday,” Guiao emphasized. “We’ll review the film, do walkthroughs, and make the needed adjustments. This series is far from finished.”

The Elasto Painters had a golden opportunity to tie the series but fell short in Game 4, losing 93-85. They now face a must-win situation to extend the series and keep their championship aspirations intact.

TNT’s Strategy for Success

TNT’s Game 4 victory was a result of a disciplined approach and improved execution. The team focused on being better in every aspect—setting stronger screens, increasing energy levels, and giving maximum effort. Calvin Oftana led the way with 26 points, proving to be a key contributor in their bounce-back win.

“Coach wrote our mission on the board—to be better in all aspects,” said Oftana. “We just wanted to prove to ourselves that we could do it. Our past game lacked effort, and we made sure to change that.”

Rain or Shine’s Struggles and Adjustments

One of the major issues for Rain or Shine in Game 4 was their lack of local contributions. Import Deon Thompson carried the team with a massive 44-point performance, but no other player scored in double figures. In contrast, TNT benefited from balanced scoring, with Oftana, RR Pogoy, Rey Nambatac, and Kim Aurin combining for 69 points, while Rondae Hollis-Jefferson added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Guiao acknowledged the team’s poor shooting performance, noting that while Thompson played exceptionally well, the lack of support from local players hurt their chances. However, he remains hopeful that his team can bounce back.

“Even with our locals struggling, we were able to keep the game close,” Guiao said. “That’s something we can build on.”

What’s at Stake in Game 5?

Game 5 is crucial for both teams. A win for TNT will send them to the finals, while a victory for Rain or Shine will extend the series and give them another chance to turn things around. With both teams determined to fight until the end, fans can expect another thrilling showdown as the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals continue.
